Guard against a null result from HID code.

It seems strange that CFGetTypeID on null would crash, but the reports
from users suggest this might be the case.

copy-pasted code, evolved use (e.g. using a property
node to store state), and so on.

Modified: let AxisElement to generate normalized input (-1.0 to 1.0).
This can be temporal and can be removed when AxisEvent normalizes its value.
